The Tigers, inalized declining the $15 million option on right fielder Magglio Ordonez for 2011. Ordoñez, who had surgery Aug. 25 on a broken ankle, ending his season, turns 37 in January. He batted .318 over his six Tigers seasons and hit 102 regular-season homers, plus the pennant-winner in ’06. Ordonez was due to receive $15 million for the 2011 season if the Tigers would have wanted to keep him.

But the 36-year-old is telling MLB.com that he’d like to be back  with the Tigers. “I want to stay in Detroit, obviously,” Ordonez said. “I know the organization has been very good to me and the fans have treated me great. … I think there is a great chance to stay in Detroit, but let’s see what happens.”

The Cleveland Indians had announced prior to the just-completed year that Antonetti was to be promoted o the general manager’s role with Shapiro being elevated to team president — finishing off a gradual shift of responsibility that saw Antonetti become steadily more acclimated to the duties of a general manager. Mr. Shapiro, a member of the team’s front office since 1992, previously served as the team’s general manager, with Mr. Antonetti worked as his assistant. Mr. Chernoff has served as the Indians’ director of baseball operations since 2007.

Choo produced his second strong offensive year, hitting .300 (165-for-550) with 31 doubles, two triples, 22 homers, 90 RBI, 22 steals and a .401 on-base percentage. He did that despite missing almost three weeks with a strained right thumb. A season-long transition was officially completed Monday as Mark Shapiro, the club’s general manager since 2001, became team president and assistant GM Chris Antonetti took over Shapiro’s role.

A woman claiming a Northwest Side tattoo parlor accidentally inked a backward Chicago White Sox logo on her thigh filed a lawsuit Thursday against the business and the artist.

Bebis, of Elmwood Park, is undergoing laser treatment to lessen the appearance of the tattoo. So far, she’s had two laser removal sessions, her attorney said. An employee at Mystic Tattoo, 3120 N. Cicero Ave., could not provide further information.

Her suit claims “pain and disfigurements” from the laser removal of a Sox logo tattoo that was administered to her thigh backwards. She is seeking up to $50,000 dollars in damages which will hopefully afford her access to the internet.  ”We made numerous attempts to resolve the case with Mystic, but the shop was unwilling to take responsibility for its mistake,” Fabbri said.

Championship T-Shirts, the Yanks ended the season with an 8-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park this past Sunday. Although the game has seen its ending, but the fans of both the Yankees and the Red Sox are not ready to stop. The Yanks-Rex Sox argument is seemingly kept going.

Finally, Did anyone else see the bunt that David Ortiz laid down for the Red Sox? It didn’t even look like the Yankees infield tried to get him out. It was a lazy play and Ortiz should never have been safe in the first place, yeah, we always want to say something, since we have opions. Having opinions is not so worse, a Nashua city employee actively involved in youth hockey programs was stabbed and critically injured Saturday night in a Connecticut bar fight over the rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. And also a Red Sox fan, and some friends left Slade’s Food & Spirits, a West Hollis Street sports bar, they encountered Hernandez, who had a Yankees sticker on her car. Hernandez got in her car, which the group chased, yelling, “Yankees suck.”, again, Julie Freire, sister of 43-year-old Boston Red Sox fan Monte Freire of Nashua, says his condition has improved from critical to stable at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

The Baltimore Orioles are giving their relationship with Aramark a ending. Aramark is known as a Philadelphia-based company which has operated concession stands at Camden Yards since it opened in 1992. The team started exploring other options last year, when Aramark’s contract to run concession stands and the team store at the stadium expired. Aramark’s deal was eventually extended through the 2010 season, which concluded Sunday against Detroit.

Now it is the truth that the Philadelphia-based Aramark will no longer handle the team’s food and beverage concessions at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore Orioles spokesman Greg Bader has confirmed this information, but the Aramark spokesman David Freireich says the company is proud of its 19-year partnership with the Orioles and hopes to work with the team again. But Bader declined to comment on why the team decided to dump Aramark and would not name the concessionaire the team hopes to bring to Camden Yards.

By any means necessary, the Giants returned to prominence. Making obvious references to Bonds and Posey, Sabean said, “Versus the past where we lived and died with one superstar player — there might be a couple of rising stars — our organization is based on pitching.” The Giants are demonstrating why clubs that can develop their own pitching often have an edge on rivals that must bolster their staffs by overpaying free agents or relinquishing top prospects in trades.

Freed from this headache, San Francisco could focus on the much simpler task of adding a bargain-priced hitter or two when the need arose. The Giants chose to build their hopes not upon an individual’s feats, but on a collective effort: Pitching. They began gathering talented hurlers through the First-Year Player Draft even while Bonds was still near his zenith.

Matt Cain, Brian Wilson, Jonathan Sanchez, Sergio Romo, Tim Lincecum, Dan Runzler and Madison Bumgarner are among the current Giants pitchers who were drafted while Bonds wore a San Francisco uniform.

Jorge Cantu looked to be a solid acquisition for the Texas Rangers when they made the move. Unfortunately for the Rangers, and Cantu, it hasn’t quite worked out that way. After hitting .262 with 10 home runs and 54 RBI with the Marlins, it took Cantu 25 games as a Ranger to finally drive in his first run, breaking a franchise record for most games without an RBI. Miguel Tejada has enjoyed his time in San Diego, which could mean a return to the Padres next season.

Since being traded from Baltimore to the Padres, Tejada is hitting .277 with eight home runs and 31 RBI through 54 games. Lowell only played in 70 games this season hitting .225 with four home runs and had more strikeouts (33) than runs batted in (23). The Texas Rangers have been rumored to have been interested in him in the past, though nothing ever came of those rumors.

Brooks Conrad who entered the game batting .298 in the seventh inning or later, sparked the decisive seventh inning with the game-tying triple that forced Marlins center fielder Cameron Maybin to crash into the outfield wall and seemingly suffer a leg injury. Thanks to Conrad, he stirred a slumbering offense with a game-tying triple and Hinske responded two batters later with a two-out, two-run seventh-inning homer that proved decisive for the Braves in their 3-2 win over the Marlins on Tuesday night at Turner Field.

Conrad became a free agent at the end of the season and signed a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training with the Atlanta Braves on November 18. On May 20, 2010, he hit his first career Major League grand slam against the Cincinnati Reds. The walk-off grand slam concluded a seven run bottom of the 9th as the Braves defeated the Reds 10-9. Conrad’s slam was voted MLB’s Most Clutch Play for the month of May.

On July 24, 2010, Conrad hit his second career Major League Grand Slam against the Florida Marlins making Conrad the only rookie in Major League history to hit two pinch-hit grand slams in the same season.

The Minnesota Twins have already clinched the AL Central even without Justin Mourneau who has been out since July as the result of a concussion. Even though the Mariners are terrible there are some great races going on still around the Majors and there does not appear to be any clear favorite to go all the way in either League. The Texas Rangers clinched the AL West  division today with a 4-3 win over the Oakland Athletics to allow the Rangers to advance to the postseason for the first time since 1999.

The Cardinals like the Red Sox are both 6.5 games out of first, but look to hand-over the NL Central title to the Reds this year. the San Diego Padres edged the Reds 4-3 again today and have to qualify as the ultimate underdogs going into the postseason, if they can manage to keep winning.

The Reds are off Monday, and the Cardinals host Pittsburgh, meaning Cincinnati could clinch the title without playing a game. The more important thing, according to manager Dusty Baker and the players, is winning the division, not how or where it happens.
Homer Bailey (4-3) allowed a pair of home runs, but settled down to contribute seven solid innings. He yielded five hits while striking out six and walking one batter. The Reds selected Bailey in the first round of the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft. Prior to the 2007 season, both Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus named Bailey the top prospect in the Reds’ farm system.
Adrian Gonzalez and Yorvit Torrealba touched up Bailey in the second with the two long balls, but Bailey allowed little else while the Reds’ offense kept piling on.
