Catcher’s interference happens while a pitcher has crossed him up so that he is expecting a fastball and the pitch is a change-up. In this case, the catcher’s glove is too far forward so the batter hits it. If the batter swings and his bat hits the catcher’s glove, he is given first base. This sometimes happens because most catchers have a certain spot that they set up in, and from time to time a batter will stand far back in the batter’s box and the catcher won’t notice.
